This method is adopted by the government to help save electricity for the benefit of the people. Pakistan is becoming low on it's dams and reservoir water is drying up or being excessively used by the agriculture sector. therefore, the government wants to protect it's resources and try to minimize load shedding by the co-operation of the people. But the general public is not agreeing with the decision of the government. especially the shop keepers who own large departmental stores and boutiques say that since it is the wedding season people generally shop during the night and that is when they make most of their income. they have refused to lower down their shutters.
The town police was asked to raid the streets of Karachi, Peshawar, Islamabad and Lahore to ask the shopkeepers personally to close down the shop. The shopkeepers do shut down their shops, but they are re-opened as soon as the police leaves. The people who shop need to understand that the notice passed is for their benefit only and it is not necessary that they purchase their items at night only. Shopping can be done during the day time when the need to electricity is less.
If the people co-operate with the government and the government fulfills its promise then the problem of shortage of electricity can be controlled.
How on earth could someone agree to those steps ?
ReplyDeleteClosing the shops at 8 ?
In Summers no one goes to the markets during the heat of the day , people tend to rest during the evenings ,so if the markets close at 8 than how will the shopkeepers manage to make both ends meet ? Impossible
Similarly the government reduced the supply of electricity to Karachi by 300 MW , how could this help lessen the energy crisis ?It will cause even more problems when Pakistan's biggest industrial city losses almost half its power.
The government has failed miserable to curtail the problem even though they have now been in power for almost two years.Maybe this is just a ploy to somehow create a consensus among the people that Rental Power plants are the only way out hence paving way for more massive corruption.
The government should try to find investors to fund the Thar coal power project this will satisfy our needs for the next 100 years atleast. But they arent interested in dong this.
Well ye i do agree with you on that but till then i think the most suitable way out is to right now agree and co-operate with the government. we are always complaining that they are not doing anything for the benefit of the people and when they actually are trying to do something then we dont agree with any of their solutions.
ReplyDeletei am sure this is not just a ploy to create consensus. Instead of just planning ahead for the next 100 years lets just start with closing down the shops at 8..if it is so hot in the afternoon then the perfect time to shop is from 4-7.
furthermore nowadays there is no such hing as haggling in outside vendor shops, people step in to purchase and every shop has decent amount of cooling to satisfy the people. this method will also help increase the sales as limited time will allow more people to come and purchase their times. especially who wait till 11p.m to go shopping. thus more sales as people will now manage their time accordingly.
